Philosophy of Assessment
Yavapai College affirms its commitment to outcomes-based, student-centered learning through an assessment philosophy that respects the student as a unique and whole person, measures student learning using best practices in higher education, and provides for broad faculty participation and leadership in assessment planning and implementation.
Assessment Goals
The goals of assessment at Yavapai College are to support quality student learning, to foster excellence in educational practices, and to improve courses and programs throughout Yavapai College.
Specifically, assessment:
- Documents achievement of learning outcomes;
- Charts key findings and trends;
- Assists in curriculum development and revision;
- Improves teaching and learning;
- Helps determine resource allocation;
- Creates a shared academic culture dedicated to assuring and improving the quality of higher education;
- Maintains institutional accreditation.
