Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment for Yavapai County High School Students

Dual Enrollment is an opportunity for county high school students to register for Yavapai College level courses at their high school, during normal operating hours.

Many high school students are ready to be challenged by college-level coursework and studies show that early exposure to college increases students likelihood of attending college after high school graduation.

Students will earn credits toward their high school graduation, and also receive college credits.

The courses offered will have the same standards and expectations as if the course were taken on a Yavapai College Campus.

How many credits can a student register for?

A student can take up to 9 credits each semester during their junior and senior year in high school, thus earning up to 36 credit hours.

Additionally, they may enroll in 3 credit hours for free during the summer of their junior and senior years through the Summer Bridge Grant program.

If a student takes maximum advantage of the Dual Enrollment Program and the Summer Bridge Grant Program, they will have earned 42 college credit hours by the time thy graduate from high school. They would need, on average, only 22 additional credit hours to complete their Associates Degree.

What does it cost?

There is no tuition fee for the Dual Enrollment Program. The Summer Bridge Grant has limited funding and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will have to purchase the appropriate college textbooks for their courses.

What are the Savings?

Translated to dollars and cents, a student taking full advantage of both Dual Enrollment and the Summer Bridge Grant, can save $1800 at the current Yavapai College tuition schedule. Out-of-pocket costs to complete an Associates Degree would be about $990, plus text books.

How do I register?

To register, students need to contact their high school counselor to begin the process. Most students will have to meet the prerequisites listed in the Yavapai College course catalog.

Yavapai College has Dual Enrollment agreements with the following schools:

  • Bradshaw Mountain High
  • Chino Valley High
  • Mayer High
  • Mingus Union High
