Performing Arts Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where is the Yavapai College Performance Hall?

The Performance Hall is located on the Prescott Campus of Yavapai College, at 1100 East Sheldon Street. Click here to get turn-by-turn directions from your location from GoogleMaps. Please be alert when driving through the interchange of Highways 69 & 89; construction is ongoing and the route through this area changes frequently so GoogleMaps directions might not be exact.

How do I reach the Community Events office by phone?

Call the Performance Hall Box Office between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at (928) 776-2000 or Toll Free at (877) 928-4253

Can I get on a mailing list to hear about future shows?

The Community Events office sends out several mailings a year to all addresses in the greater Tri-city area, including a full season brochure and periodic postcards with upcoming events. We encourage you to sign up for our e-mail newsletter, which will give you the latest information on upcoming shows, including breaking news on any performances added to our schedule. We will not sell your e-mail or other information to any outside parties.

How can I support live arts in Yavapai County?

Ticket sales alone simply cannot cover the cost of bringing you top-notch live entertainment at the Performance Hall. We rely on the support of the Performing Arts Charitable Endowment at Yavapai College, as well as the generous backing of our season and event sponsors.

As an individual, your support of PACE makes a world of difference, no matter how much you can give. Thanks to PACE donors, Yavapai College Community Events can put on a great season of evening shows, and over 9,000 school children from all across the area get to experience the performing arts each year through our “Artist in Residence” program. Find out more about PACE and the benefits available to donors, including the opportunity to buy tickets for our shows before they become available to the general public:

As a business, sponsorship of the full season or individual events offers you a splendid opportunity to give back to the community and receive plenty of public recognition for that support. To find out more about business sponsorship opportunities, contact Susan Garner at 928-776-2000.

What does “Additional Event/Rental” on your calendar mean?

The Performance Hall at Yavapai College is available for rental by local and national organizations. In our advertising, ADDITIONAL EVENT/RENTAL indicates that an outside group has booked the Performance Hall and ticket sales are offered to the public through YCCE as a service for patrons and renters. Tickets for these events cannot be returned or exchanged and are not part of the Yavapai College Community Events season.

Can I rent the Performance Hall for my performance?

Yes. Contact Performance Hall Director Garry Chartier at (928) 776-2010.

How do I become an usher?

We are proud of our team of ushers who help ensure a delightful and safe experience for our patrons. To apply for a position as an usher, fill out the application form and return it to the Performance Hall box office. If accepted, you will then need to complete a training course that covers the duties of our ushers at performances as well as CPR and basic first aid.

How many seats are there in the Yavapai College Performance Hall?

The hall was carefully designed and constructed to provide an intimate experience for up to 1,100 people. With 18 rows of seats on the stage level and seven rows of seats in the balcony, the hall lives up to its reputation as not having a bad seat in the house. Click here to see the seating chart.

I remember Yavapai College Events in the Elks Theater downtown; does Community Events still hold shows in other venues?

In 1976 Yavapai College, under the direction of Deb McCasland, started offering a series of performing arts events through the pilot artist-in-residence program from the National Endowment for the Arts.

That first year they presented six artists performing a week of school performances, workshops, and public performances. Over the years, performances were held in various locations including the student center, Courthouse Plaza, Sacred Heart Church, Hendrix Auditorium, YMCA roller skating rink, Prescott Fine Arts Theater, and the Elks Theater. On April 26, 1992, the college opened its new Performance Hall to further increase the artistic and theatrical quality of event presentation.

Community Events shows are now held in the Yavapai College Performance Hall.

Can the Performance Hall accommodate wheelchairs or walkers?

Yes. The hall can accommodate four to five wheelchairs and companion seats on the right hand aisle, rows H, J and K. You can see the seating chart for the entire hall.

If you use a walker, our ushers will assist you in reaching your seat and then place your folded walker in the vestibule at the end of your row. If possible, it’s a good idea to have some sort of identifying tag or mark on your walker to help ushers identify it at the end of the show.

Please note that our balcony is only accessible by a 28-step stairway; there is no elevator access to the balcony.

I have difficulty hearing; do you have hearing assistance?

The Performance Hall is equipped with Assistive Listening Devices that are available for loan during our shows. They include a volume control and are designed to work alone or in combination with existing hearing aids.

You can borrow listening devices from the Yava Java refreshment stand on the left hand side of the Performance Hall lobby. The head usher will hold your drivers license or other identification until the devices are returned at the end of the show.

I’m afraid the show will be too loud; can you turn down the sound?

If you feel the sound level will be uncomfortable, we have disposable foam ear plugs available at the box office on the right hand side of the Performance Hall. These are designed to reduce sound levels by 33 decibels.

Where do I park my car?

Parking is free and ample at the Yavapai College Prescott campus; please note however that parking may be very difficult for daytime events on weekdays, as this is a very busy college campus.

Does the Performance Hall allow smoking?

Smoking is prohibited inside the Performance Hall, the Lobby, and within set distances of all entrances and air intakes. If you are a smoker, look for clearly marked smoking areas outside of the building.

Can I bring my own food or drinks to shows?

No food or drink is allowed inside the Performance Hall. The Yava Java refreshment stand is located on the left hand side of the lobby. All food or drink must be consumed or discarded before entering the Performance Hall.

Can I take pictures or record at performances?

Absolutely not. Taking still pictures with or without flash, video recording, and any audio recording is strictly prohibited. Attempting to record or photograph performances or sound checks violates our agreements with the artists, and will result in immediate removal from the hall and confiscation of the recording medium.

What happens if I arrive late for a performance?

To cause the least amount of disruption to the performance and to other patrons, if you arrive late you’ll be seated at the discretion of the house manager. You might not be seated in your assigned seats until intermission.

May I bring children to a show, and does my infant need a ticket?

The arts are important for all ages, and many of our shows are oriented to families. Only you can decide whether a performance is suitable for and interesting to your child.

If you have a heartbeat, you need a seat. All children will require a ticket, regardless of age. Strollers and baby seats are not allowed in the Performance Hall. Please take into consideration whether a child can sit quietly for an entire performance without disturbing other members of the audience; children who disturb other patrons should be removed to the lobby.

What is your policy regarding cell phones?

Why on earth would you want to be that inconsiderate of your fellow audience members and the artists? If you bring a cell phone into the theater, we ask that you turn it off or put it in “vibrate” mode before the performance begins, and that you refrain from answering any calls, reading or sending text messages during the performance. It is extremely distracting to your fellow patrons and the artist on stage. If you must use your cell phone during intermission, please remember to turn it off before re-entering the theater.

Does the Performance Hall have a dress code?

We want you to be comfortable and enjoy your evening at the Performance Hall. Part of that theater experience involves dressing nicely and acting responsibly as a way of showing respect for the performers, technicians, theater workers and everyone who is working hard to bring high-quality entertainment to our community. The house manager reserves the right to deny entry to anyone who may be wearing clothing or acting in a manner that will disrupt other patrons or the performers.
