Systems Administrator II
Exempt
Organizes and integrates planning and execution of activities around a specific program or function; may assist to develop and administer budget.
Works within a specific area requiring a specialized body of knowledge; requires an understanding of internal and external procedures and policies to produce end results
Undergraduate degree required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; masters level degree preferred.
Minimum of two years of experience required in the area of specialty; four or more years required at the highest complexity level
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of current technologies; the operation of assigned server operating systems and software; principles and techniques of systems programming; applications system design, programming techniques and procedures.
Requires influencing and project management of others within the same and other departments to accomplish responsibilities; requires moderate external contact and influencing
May have lead responsibility over other employees. Carries out lead responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Monitors the assigned computer software systems in terms of function and interaction.
Provides management and support for on-site and off-site servers, systems and applications.
Research, plan, implement, and maintain a complex Storage Area Network including allocation of resources to appropriate areas. Research, plan, implement, and maintain complex redundant file and database servers
Manage and monitor Email/Groupware servers.
Assists, advises and trains users.
Designs and/or modifies systems and interfaces.
Performs software installation and system problem solving.
Installs, configures, maintains and troubleshoots software and hardware.
Programs and maintains system for users.
May consult with faculty, administrators and staff in developing instructional and business uses of technologies.
Analyzes and evaluates new technologies for potential applications.
Makes recommendations to supervisors relating to operating and software system selection, including performance consideration.
Provides troubleshooting and technical support to the end user.
Analyzes and debugs operating systems or software.
Monitors and maintains system and performs tuning, testing and documentation of system.
Monitors user account and security management.
Confers with vendors in diagnosing and correcting errors.
Interpret computer data; identify and resolve software and operation problems; evaluate program products; identify advantages and limitations of various technologies; modify and implement selected programs to interface with software already in use; interpret user and owner manuals.
Research, develop, monitor, and maintain a campus wide network security program. Including delivery of timely software patches and virus updates and definitions. Coordinate major deployments with desktop services personnel.
