What is Nursing?

Nursing, as an integral part of the health care system, encompasses the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and care of physically ill, mentally ill, and disabled people of all ages, in all health care and other community settings. Within this broad spectrum of health care, the phenomena of particular concern to nurses are individual, family, and group "responses to actual or potential health problems" (ANA, 1980, P.9). These human responses range broadly from health restoring reactions to an individual episode of illness to the development of policy in promoting the long-term health of a population.

➡️Nursing Entrance Exam Preparation

Admission to the Nursing program depends, in part, on how well you do on the pre-admission testing exam. Pre-admission testing must be completed at Yavapai College and is offered once a semester.

Test scores from other schools are not accepted. Students may take the test only once during each application cycle. Test scores are good for two consecutive application cycles (students may use the current test score that is the highest).

The program recommends that you give yourself at least six weeks to prepare before taking the ATI TEAS or NLN NACE FON v1.2 exam. Exam score must be submitted with the nursing application.

➡️Traditional AAS applicants: ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Exam

The ATI TEAS cumulative report results are to include student name, testing location, the cumulative score and scores from each of the following categories: Reading, English and Language usage, Math and Science. A minimum cumulative score of 58.7% is required for application submission. Make sure you are well prepared do your best! ATI TEAS scores account for 50% of your admission “score” according to the selection criteria.

➡️LPN-RN AP applicants (only): NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam (NACE) Foundations of Nursing (FON) v1.2

LPN-RN AP applicants must complete the NLN Accelerated Challenge Exam Foundations of Nursing (NACE-FON v1.2). This exam measures the PN/VN applicant's foundational nursing knowledge, skills, and abilities. Payment for the NACE-FON v1.2 exam can be made directly to NLN.

The NLN NACE-FON v1.2 cumulative report results must include the student’s name, testing site (participant group), the cumulative score, and scores from the following categories: Analysis, Assessment, Evaluation, Implementation, and Planning. A minimum cumulative score of 68% is required for application submission. LPN-RN AP applicants must also register to take a dosage calculation competency.

LPN – RN AP applicants must also complete a dosage calculation exam with a score of 95% or higher to apply for advanced placement. If an applicant scores less than 95%, a second attempt is permitted. Follow-up testing is set up through the Testing Center. Study Guides are available.
