LMS policy - course viewability

When a course is published, it becomes viewable to students.

Please NOTE the following:

  • Students will only be able to view published items.
  • Students will only be able to participate (reply to discussions, take quizzes, etc.) between the Start and End dates set in the course settings when the "Participation" option is set to "Course", and between the Term dates when the "Participation" option is set to "Term" - we don't recommend setting this to "Term".

How to set this up automatically in your course settings:

  1. Set "Participation" option to "Course".
  2. Set course Start date to Friday before term begins.
  3. Check "Restrict students from viewing course before course start date" to restrict access prior to start date. This is optional, if you are ready for students to view your course before the start date, as in the moment you publish the course, leave this unchecked.
  4. Make sure to "Update Course Details" at the bottom of the page.
  5. Publish the course. 
  6. Prepare your Welcome Message in an Announcement and check "Delay posting" to the appropriate date.
