from the president
This summer I took the opportunity to reflect on the activities and accomplishments of Yavapai College Foundation (YCF) during the past fiscal year 2013- 2014, which ended June 30, 2014. By every measure it was a banner year!
We again strengthened our Board of Directors with the addition of Carolyn Lee, Dr. Charles Thomas, Phil Winkelstern and Valerie Wood (see page 17). We added to our cadre of volunteers with special interest in supporting a particular Yavapai College (YC) program area by establishing a new YCF auxiliary, Friends of the Southwest Wine Center. Add to these efforts the great work of Friends of Music, Friends of Art and Friends of the Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center and I’m very proud to say that more volunteers are now working to raise awareness and resources in support of YC through YCF than ever before.
I am also very heartened to see that so many people in our community—almost 1,000 last fiscal year— chose to make a gift. Your thoughtful gifts provide a margin of excellence for YC educational programs, and they provide scholarships for many students each year—students who, without this scholarship support, would not be able to realize their dream of a college education. During last fiscal year alone your gifts totaled $1,635, 929, of which $393,000 was allocated directly to scholarships that will help more than 400 students!
I am also very proud of the support YCF provided to complete two new YC capital construction projects. First, YCF partnered with the Prescott Area Tennis Association to raise more than $185,000 for the seven new courts that will comprise the new tennis facility. This will be a valuable new recreational asset
for our community, and I look forward to using the new courts. Second, YCF raised another $155,000
last year for the Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College. This brings our total contribution to this new YC destination educational program to more than $1.1 million. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this project evolve from a beginning concept to the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony.
I look forward with enthusiasm to working with YC and YCF leaders to accomplish a new set of goals
in the year ahead, and I invite you to join us. Please consider volunteering with one of our auxiliaries, endow a new student scholarship, enjoy a show in the outstanding Performing Arts Center or become a member of the Legacy League. There are so many ways to help YCF improve the quality of life for everyone in Yavapai County.
