he Yavapai College Foundation helped celebrate the opening of the reconstructed public
tennis courts on the YC Prescott Campus in
December. The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together Foundation members with representatives of the College, the Prescott Area Tennis Association (PATA), project contractors, and members of the public.
The total project cost $1.3 million and was funded primarily by Yavapai College as part of its planned maintenance program that preserves College assets at the highest standards possible. The YC Foundation played a key role with support from PATA in obtaining additional funding of some $166,000 from private donations and $25,000 from the City
of Prescott.
The new public courts replace 40-year-old courts that were long overdue for replacement. The courts are used by Yavapai College tennis students, the general public, and the Prescott Area Tennis Association (PATA) for various tennis events.
In addition to seven full-sized courts, the facility has new fencing, new lighting, attractive landscaping, terracing for tennis viewers, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access. The project also included replacing the Yavapai College portion of the Roughrider Park parking lot and the low-water crossing structure at Whitlow Drive and Washington Street, and repaving the College’s section of this roadway.

YCF ‘MOST PHILANTHROPIC’
The Yavapai College Foundation was honored as the Most Philanthropic Business at the Prescott Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting held in January at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center. This was one of 12 awards presented to area businesses during the Chamber’s inaugural Healthy Prescott Business Award Program.
Marla Bassler, YCF Major Gifts Officer, accepted the award on behalf of the Foundation. “It’s very heartening to work with the hundreds of donors in our community who give so generously to help Yavapai College students of all ages realize their educational goals,” she said.
Also at the January meeting, Yavapai College Vice President Steve Walker was named Chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors for 2015. He succeeds Ed Walsh of Lamb Chevrolet in the position.
