Pella expert offers installation tutorial at YC’s Skilled Trades Center

Yavapai College offered local carpenters and builders some useful specialized instruction last Tuesday when the corporate team from Pella Windows & Doors hosted an installation workshop at YC’s Skilled Trades Center on the Verde Valley Campus.

“The Pella workshop we held is critical for carpentry graduates in our community.” Skilled Trades Center Instructor James Morales says. “It introduces them to the latest techniques, proper installation methods, and new products. Staying current with these industry updates is essential for maintaining relevant certifications and ensures that our students are prepared for the demands of the field.”

Thirty students – past and present YC carpentry students, industry professionals and Habitat for Humanity volunteers – packed the Skilled Trades Center in two sold-out sessions, as Pella Installation Specialist John Mueller took them through a hands-on, step-by-step process that met Pella’s best practices for window installation.

“The class focused on water management, new construction, nail fin applications and our new Steady Set interior installation, as well as traditional and flush fin pocket replacement methods.” Mueller explains.

The Skilled Trades Center offers industry certifications to students and those working in the trades throughout the year. The idea is to provide YC building trade students with an opportunity to expand their skill sets and keep them current with the demands of Northern Arizona’s booming construction industry.

“Workshops like this absolutely make our students more employable.” Morales says. “They gain hands-on experience that local builders highly value, making them very desirable employees.”

The STC regularly holds workshops with factory representatives during the Fall and Spring semesters. The workshops are open to students and the public for workforce training, with more to be scheduled in the coming months. For additional information, please call (928) 634-7501.
