The Yavapai College Police Department has promoted two of its finest to the rank of detective.

The detective titles for Travis Munday and Megyn Felton are the first for the YCPD in many years, owing to sheer determination on the part of each of the officers and the agency’s leadership.

“For at least the past year, Munday and Felton have been preparing to test for the position of detective. They have attended basic and advance crime-scene investigation schools and worked with local agencies and their investigative teams in an effort to obtain knowledge and build relationships with other departments,” said YC Police Chief Tyran Payne. “Creating this position within campus safety will allow the department to conduct more detailed investigations and provide a more advanced level of service for the college community.”

Dets. Munday and Felton were feted during a traditional law enforcement pinning ceremony earlier this month at the YC Prescott campus. Among those on hand to congratulate the promotees were YC President Dr. Lisa Rhine and the YC Women’s Soccer Team.

Pinning the detective badge on Munday, a veteran YCPD officer primarily serving the Verde Valley Campus and Sedona Center, was his wife, Tania. The couple’s daughter, Bailey, and son, Colton, also were on hand for the celebration.

Mark Evens pinned the detective badge on his daughter, Megyn, a YC Administration of Justice alumna and December 2020 Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy (NARTA) graduate.

In remarks during the pinning ceremony, YCPD Sgt. Jake Jackson thanked Munday and Felton for their hard work and dedication. “You guys are tremendous, passion-driven individuals and are amazing to work with. I look forward to the next chapter.”

Both new YCPD detectives thanked the department and the college for the opportunity to advance their law enforcement skills and their careers.

“Thank you so much for all the support you have given me, for pushing me harder and harder every day to do better and for seeing the potential in me,” Felton said.

Munday echoed Felton’s gratitude saying he relishes the opportunity to serve the college in a greater capacity.
