Yavapai College has announced the launch of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, RN-BSN. The announcement was made at a press conference held today at the YC Prescott Campus featuring college faculty, staff, students, Yavapai County healthcare leaders, and industry partners.

Application for the program and registration for classes is open for classes starting on January 13.

It is the second baccalaureate degree offered by Yavapai College, following its Bachelor of Science in Business Degree that launched this past fall semester.

It is designed for RN professionals ready to complete their Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree for career advancement in Leadership roles.

“This degree will change the lives of countless residents of Yavapai County. It is more than just a degree,” said Dr. Lisa Rhine, President of Yavapai College. “Yavapai College works to find the need and endeavors to meet it.  YC provides the educational training that our students need to prepare them for living wage jobs that our local businesses so desperately need to support the residents of our county.”

Representatives from Yavapai County healthcare organizations were on hand to offer their thoughts on the degree:

“Partnering with Yavapai College helps us to strengthen our workforce now and into the future. We need qualified nurses, we need qualified physicians, and we need qualified support staff. The College is going to afford us that opportunity to collaborate for people not only to live here, get educated here but to have a career here,” said Dr. Anthony Torres, CEO of Dignity Healthy Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

“In the last year, we have seen Yavapai College launch a Behavioral Health Technician program, they’ve launched a Community Health Worker program, all of which was in response to the community need, but also the needs of the providers here. It has been an honor to collaborate with the College on making those things happen,” said Sunshine Dean, Vice president of Business Development of Spectrum Healthcare Group.  “On behalf of Spectrum, I’d like to personally thank the College for really listening to the community's need and making sure that the college creates customized programs that are designed to serve that need.”

“This new degree shows Yavapai College’s commitment to providing attainable and affordable education to our communities that will strengthen our organization and many others. It allows us to further the critical care of our veterans and their families in need.  We can’t say enough for all that you’re doing and all the resources that you’re putting forth for this community,” said Rita Hess, Associate Director of Patient Care Services at Northern Arizona Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.
