Yavapai College is pleased to announce Dr. Doug Berry as its new Provost.
Dr. Berry currently serves as the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the Maricopa County Community College District. He previously served Paradise Valley Community College as the Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, responsible for planning, directing, evaluating, and providing oversight of the Academic Affairs division of the College.
As Provost at Yavapai College, Dr. Berry will serve on the Executive Leadership Team and oversee the academic areas of business and professional programs, visual and performing arts, humanities, english, social sciences, math, science, and computer science. Additionally, he will oversee academic operations such as instructional support, scheduling, the YC libraries, and academic initiatives such as Open Education Resources, among others.
He will begin his tenure at YC on December 1.

Dr. Berry previously served as Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Accreditation Liaison Officer at Phoenix College. There, he oversaw 17 Academic Departments as well as the Academic Support Services. Additionally, he was the Project Administrator for the Title V Grant, Closing Achievement Gaps Through Holistic Support, Work-Based Experiences, and Equity-Minded Practices. He led the college through its HLC Open Pathways Accreditation and was a tri-chair for the Guided Pathways Initiative. Prior to that, he was the Dean of Academic Affairs at Paradise Valley Community College. He provided leadership for the Maricopa Transformation, HLC Accreditation, Career and Technical Education, and general education instruction. Additionally, he oversaw the Early College Programs and the Learning Success Center.
Dr. Berry also has numerous years of classroom teaching experience as an appointed full-time and adjunct faculty in the field of Psychology. He recently received the Employee Excellence Award from NISOD and was previously awarded the John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Award from the League for Innovation. He advocates for the “whole student” and supports efforts that promote student success, such as diverse and sustainable curricular and co-curricular programs, college-wide collaboration, and student-centered resources and services.
Dr. Berry's academic qualifications include earning his Ph.D. in General Psychology with a research emphasis in Emotional Intelligence and Team Cohesion from Capella University, his M.A. in Sports and Exercise Psychology from Argosy University, and his B.A. in Psychology from Olivet Nazarene University. Dr. Berry's educational journey reflects his commitment to understanding the complexities of human behavior and its impact on academic and personal success.
He is married to his wife, Allison, and has two boys, Tyson and Colton, who are active in curricular and co-curricular activities. He spends his free time with his family and friends and enjoys hiking and other outdoor activities.
