The time has come for local film buffs to sample the world’s best short-subject films and have their say about who grabs the statuette come Oscar night. Yavapai College’s School of Film & Media Arts invites you to the 27th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival, Friday Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Elks Theater in Prescott.

“The Manhattan Short Film Festival has been a favorite with Prescott audiences since 2013,” Helen Stephenson, Yavapai College’s School of Film & Media Arts Director, said. “The audience votes for the winners, and everyone loves that participation. This is an Oscar-qualifying festival and gives us a chance to see the best of the best short films.”

The MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL brings ten Oscar-eligible short films together to win the favor – and the votes -- of a worldwide audience. These Final Ten selections represent the best short films from among 872 submissions from 74 countries received by MANHATTAN SHORT for 2024, a testimony to the enduring vibrancy and creativity of short films worldwide.

This year’s MANHATTAN SHORT finalists are:

The Talent (UK); I’m Not a Robot (The Netherlands); Mother (Ukraine); Dovecote (Italy); Pathological (United States); Alarms (France); Favourites (Australia); The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (Croatia); Room Taken (Ireland); Jane Austen’s Period Drama (United States).

Together, they make an engaging evening of laughter, tears and thought-provoking glimpses from voices and cultures often-overlooked.

MANHATTAN SHORT 2024 will screen the films simultaneously across the world during a one-week period, with the Best Film and Best Actor awards determined by ballots cast by the audiences in each venue. By virtue of their selection by MANHATTAN SHORT, each short film is automatically Oscar-qualified.

The 27th annual MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL will be held Friday night, October 4, at 7 p.m. at The Elks Theater and Performing Arts Center, 117 E. Gurley Street in Prescott. Tickets are $7 - $12, including fees. Tickets are available at the Elks Theater Box Office, or by clicking here.
