PASSING ON THE GIFT OF ART AND MUSIC
THOUGHTFUL GIFT PLANNING HELPS STUDENTS TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOR GENERATIONS TO COME
It can be said that a well-lived life is one in which you share your interests and joy with others. A lifelong lover of art, music and animals, Mel Shutz exemplifies this idea, spending much of his time teaching classes for the Osher Lifetime Learning Institute (OLLI), listening to opera, looking after his two canine companions (Bert and Brando) and giving of his time to local charities that he feels passionate about.
In 2011 Mel joined the Legacy League by making his planned gift to the College and naming YCF as a beneficiary of a financial brokerage account. This will allow him to continue receiving income today and, later, support the important work being done by the OLLI programs at Yavapai College.
“I’ve given to national organizations, but now I’d rather contribute to local organizations in which I am involved,” Mel says. “I’ve been associated with OLLI for nine years and have taught or attended over 800 class days during that period.”
Mel is also passionate about the impact that music and art have made in his life. To inspire a new generation of artists, he has also elected to provide for students today by establishing the Shutz Family Endowed scholarship, which supports students in both the art and choral music departments at Yavapai College.
Whether you are considering a gift through your estate or a gift that supports a student today, the YCF staff can help you meet your philanthropic goals in the most tax-effective way. For more information, contact Paul Kirchgraber at 928-717-7773.
Since the Yavapai College Foundation opened its doors in 1976, Yavapai College students, faculty members and staff have benefited from the thoughtful generosity of donors who have left a bequest in their wills.
YCF ALLOCATES $300,000
FOR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Spurred on by increased donations and growing economy, the YCF board of directors has approved the allocation of $300,000 for student
scholarships in the 2014-15 school year.
“The YCF Foundation Board is very interested in helping attract and retain students,” said Steve Walker, Executive Director of YCF. “It’s the Foundation’s
hope that increasing scholarship dollars available to students will result in increased enrollment and spur student success.”
Last year, a record 390 students received scholarship assistance totaling $168,000. “With $300,000 available this year,” Walker said, “we will be able to set another record in terms of the number of Yavapai College students assisted by our community’s generosity.”
