Donate $105,000 to YCF Gift endows new presidential scholarship
Private gifts play a vital role in supporting the students, programs and services of Yavapai College. YCF is pleased to announce that Board President Perry Massie and his wife, Sandy, have contributed $105,000 to create the President’s Discretionary Endowed Scholarship.
The Massie’s discretionary endowment gives the YC President flexibility to decide where the endowment earnings can be used most effectively each year in order to meet the College’s changing scholarship needs and priorities. “It is a great way to change someone’s life for the better,” said Perry Massie.
This summer, the first recipients of the President’s Discretionary Scholarship will be selected from students participating in YC’s new Lead Program. Lead is designed to give newly graduated high school students a head start on college life during the summer following graduation. Lead students will earn college credits and experience college life on either the Prescott campus or Verde Valley campus. Details of the program are posted online at www.yc.edu/thelead.

Keeping it in the Family:
YC Alumnus
ndows Scholarship
EThe Mangun family is a prime example of pay- ing it forward. Dr. Ron Mangun and his wife, Tamara, along with their sons, Nick and Alex,
have established the George H. and Elizabeth Mangun Memorial Scholarship endowment at Yavapai College in memory of Ron’s parents, who believed deeply in the value of education to individuals and for society.
Dr. George H. Mangun was a biochemist who dedicat- ed his life to understand and develop treatments for a variety of diseases. Elizabeth Mangun was a histologist who worked for many years in pathology laboratories, including at St Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.

Ron is an alumnus of Yavapai College, obtaining his A.A. degree in 1981. His illustrious career has found him traveling the globe to sit on scientific panels and advisory
boards, publishing more than 100 writings and becoming the founding
Director of the Center for Mind and Brain at the University of California, Davis.
Both Ron and Tamara are professors at UC Davis, but he never forgot where he got his start. Through all
of his success, Ron remembers that the science pro- fessors and facilities at Yavapai College helped him launch his career.
The Mangun family established the endowed scholar- ship for eligible students participating in research or unpaid internships through a degree program. The gift ensures that the belief in the value of education that George and Elizabeth passed down to their family will continue to impact the lives of learners for generations to come.
