Transfer to YC

Get Started with our Transfer Student Checklist

YC is a great place to continue your education. If you have previous college coursework, send your official transcripts from your previous college directly to the Yavapai College Registrar. Official transcripts will be evaluated to determine how much credit will be granted for transfer courses toward satisfying Yavapai College degree and certificate requirements. Students should meet with an academic advisor to achieve maximum benefit when establishing an academic plan.

NOTE Yavapai College accepts credits from regionally accredited institutions. Only courses 100-level or above with a grade of "C" or better will be considered for transfer credit and will be evaluated based on course descriptions and learning outcomes.

Transfer from YC to a University

Get Started with our Guide to a Successful University Transfer

We have partnerships with several universities to help students make a smooth transition into their bachelor's degree. YC students receive dedicated advisement to help with academic planning and preparation for transfer. As students meet with their advisor throughout their journey, they receive tips and resources to make a successful transfer.

Start at YC in High School (Early College students)

Get Started with our Early College team

Yavapai College offers courses for college credit at high schools throughout Yavapai County. Our early college advisors help students plan their path for continuing into a bachelor's degree and work with students in understanding important differences between the Freshman and Transfer designation when applying for admissions and scholarships.

NOTE: A Freshman is a student with fewer than 12 college credits earned after completing high school or GED; college credits earned before high school graduation or GED do not affect freshman status. A transfer student has 12 or more college credits earned after completing high school.

Finish your YC Program (Reverse Transfer)

Get Started with our Advising team

Students who transfer to a university without completing their associate's degree are given the opportunity to combine community college and university credits to determine if missing associate degree requirements have been met. Connect with our advising team to see if this might work for you.

Career & Transfer Guide for a Successful University Transfer

Preparation and planning for your transfer should begin from your first semester at YC. These four career and transfer benchmarks will help you stay on track toward your long-term goals. By engaging with career exploration and transfer planning throughout your time at YC, your team will help you build your path. The transfer process at each university varies - work with your YC Advisor and University Advisor throughout. When everyone is involved, you are less likely to lose credits and more likely to stay on track towards your bachelor's degree.

Connect your education to career goals (1st Semester)

  • Associate of Arts and Associate of Science students must select electives that align with their transfer major. Students should meet with their YC and university advisor for assistance with using transfer tools (i.e. Major Guides and university catalogs) to determine appropriate electives.
  • The Associate of General Studies does not have an AGEC built into program requirements and students must work with their advisor to determine if this is an appropriate degree for transfer based on your goals.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degrees are designed to prepare for employment. Speak with your advisor if you are completing an AAS and want to transfer so you can explore BAS or 90/30 bachelor degree options.

Develop your network, skills, and experiences (25-50% completion of YC program)

Progress toward your goals (51-75% program completion)

  • Explore work-based learning opportunities at YC and your university to build upon classroom instruction
    • It is typically recommended that you apply for admissions 1 year prior to starting at the university.
    • Completing your admissions application and FAFSA early can give you access to more scholarship opportunities!
    • If you are applying to 3 or more universities, check if they all accept the Common Application.
  • The major you select may have requirements beyond what is needed for admission to the university. Some programs, such as business, art, and music, may have special admission requirements such as a higher GPA, portfolio, audition, etc. University program advisors can help clarify requirements and provide important tips to prepare for special requirements.

  • Communicate with your YC advisor if you are considering any changes to your goals.

Complete your YC program and advance (76-100% program completion)
