After studying graphic design at Yavapai College I went on to have a career in both print and website design. I started as a graphic designer in 1999 at age of 19 in Minot, ND at the Minot Daily News and then returned to my hometown of Prescott, AZ, and worked in print design at EMI PrintWorks before starting my own company, BJH Designs, and working at Prescott Woman Magazine. I purchased Prescott Woman Magazine in 2018.
Yavapai College was the steppingstone to my success. Without the graphic design program, the knowledgeable teachers, and the skills I learned I wouldn't be where I am today.
My favorite part about education at Yavapai College was the lifelong connection you made with both students and teachers. Living in a small community you get to revisit those connections on a peer level later in life.
I learned a lot from long time teacher and educator, Lauren McCrea - who was a leader in the graphic design world for a long time.
