Request Supplemental Instruction Sessions
Supplemental Instruction (SI) offers regularly scheduled group study and content review sessions outside of class, typically held once a week. These sessions are facilitated by an SI Leader, a student who has successfully completed the course with a minimum grade of B, or by a Learning Center tutor embedded in Canvas.
SI Leaders organize and lead a one- to three-hour weekly group review session designed to reinforce understanding of challenging course concepts and assist with test preparation.
These sessions can either be held in person or online.
To help make the sessions successful faculty will:
- Meet with their SI Leader and Learning Center Manager for one hour at the beginning of the semester to discuss the process, set check-in dates, and share any information that would be helpful for the sessions.
- Communicate regularly with the SI Leader regarding course material and student needs.
- Provide feedback to the Learning Center Manager regarding issues that might develop during the semester.
- Promote the SI sessions to their classes regularly and provide a link to the schedule.
The Learning Center will handle all administrative aspects of the SI program.
- Manage the hiring process and ensure SI Leaders complete all required HR training.
- Onboarding process to prepare SI Leaders for success in their roles
- Pre-semester training for SI Leaders to facilitate effective sessions
- Ongoing professional development to enhance SI Leader skills
Departments are charged up to $2,560 per SI-supported course if Learning Center funding is unavailable.
