Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Calculators
Determine your progression rate, GPA and whether you have met Satisfactory Academic Progress
The following calculators are provided to help you determine your progression rate and GPA, as well as what it may take to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
SAP Calculator
To determine how many hours you need to earn in future semesters to comply with the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy, you can enter information into the SAP Calculator to assist you.
To gather the figures for calculating your rate of progression:
- log into your YC portal
- go to Students → My Financial Aid → click on the Satisfactory Academic Progress tab.
The SAP and Program(s) of Study section will give you the information you need.
Note: YC calculates SAP (including ROP) at the end of each term. If you have transfer credits that were evaluated after SAP was ran, your calculation may not include your transfer credits. Also, Yavapai College does NOT use rounding protocols when calculating your rate of progression. You must have a rate of progression of at least 66.67% without rounding.

Scenario
Sally provided a transcript to YC from her previous school before SAP was ran at the end of the term at YC. She had 20 transfer credits, but YC only accepted 15 of those 20 credits. Transfer credits count as attempted and earned.
Her Financial Aid Overview shows that she has attempted 12 credits at YC so far, however, she earned only 6 of those credits. She will be enrolled in a 3 credit course she has never taken before next semester that hasn’t began yet.
Entering existing credits in the calculator:
Based on the above situation, Sally's total credits would be calculated like this:
Earned: | Attempted: | |
Transfer credits: | 15 | 15 |
YC credits: | 6 | 12 |
Total credits: | 21 | 27 |
Here's how it would look in the calculator:
NOTE: Her current ROP would calculate as 77.8%. This is above the SAP standard of 66.67%.
Adding Anticipated Credits:
Now, she needs to add in her anticipated credits for the next term if she plans on enrolling to be able to project how that will impact her current ROP of 77.8%.
She plans on attempting 3 credits that she has never taken before. Because she plans on passing the course, she is expecting she will earn 3 credits. Her calculation would look like this:
Earned: | Attempted: | |
Anticipated credits: | 3 | 3 |
Here's how it would look in the calculator:
NOTE: Her estimated ROP, based on her earned and anticipated hours, would calculate as 80%, which is above the SAP standard of 66.67%.
Calculating for estimated unearned hours:
Let’s say, however, she isn’t sure if she will pass the anticipated 3 credit course for the next semester and wants to project her worst case scenario.
Earned: | Attempted: | |
Anticipated credits: | 0 | 3 |
Here's how it would look in the calculator:
By using the calculator, you can see she is still above 66.67% for SAP standards, so her Rate of Progression would be passing the minimum SAP requirement!
