Yavapai College (YC) District Governing Board (DGB) voted unanimously to rename the Sculpture Garden, the Richard Marcusen Sculpture Garden at Yavapai College at the DGB meeting on October 6, 2015.
The naming is in recognition of Dick’s exemplary service to Yavapai College. He began teaching at YC in 1971 and was instrumental in establishing the Art Programs, Gallery, and Sculpture Garden through FRIENDS of YC Art. Upon his retirement, he was awarded Emeritus Art Faculty status.
During his 30 years of work with FRIENDS of YC Art, Dick helped facilitate more than 40,000 hours of volunteer labor and raise an estimated $1,163,864 in outright and in-kind gifts to build the YC Sculpture Garden.
The Richard Marcusen Sculpture Garden is the best kept secret in Prescott located on the Prescott Campus of Yavapai College, to the west and north of the Performing Arts Center.
The Garden is a place of beauty, inspiration, and thoughtful reflection. It is a perfect balance of art, education, nature and spirit.
